Petaluma DUI Checkpoint, Patrols nets 5

PETALUMA – On Saturday night, 5 individuals were taken into custody by the Petaluma police on suspicion of driving under the influence during a checkpoint and saturation patrols, according to police sergeant.

On Saturday, the checkpoint was conducted from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and a total of 649 drivers were screened by the officers for signs of DUI and to check their driver’s licenses, said police Sgt. Jim Stephenson.

Officers issued field sobriety tests to 13 drivers from which eight were taken into custody. 1 individual was taken into custody for driving under the influence.

Because of inclement weather, police ended the checkpoint and administered saturation patrols, conducted from 10 p.m. on Saturday to 3 a.m. on Sunday due to which 4 individuals were taken into custody for driving under the influence, said Stephenson.

The operations were funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
