Drunk driver arrested after crashing into fire hydrant

According to the police and fire officials, a driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence after an accident that sheared off a fire hydrant sending water gushing 60 feet into the air in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood early this morning.

According to the fire department, the collision was reported outside 691 O’Farrell Street near Hyde Street around 12:42 a.m. A collision happened between a taxi and a sedan which sent the taxi into the fire hydrant, and water gushed 60 feet into the air as a result.

Police spokesman, Officer Gordon Shyy said, no individual was injured in the accident.

Some people who live in the area lost water service. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission responded and had service restored at about 6 a.m.

The driver of the sedan was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence, said Shyy.
