DUI crackdown planned for Memorial Day weekend

Police officers are warning individuals who are going to drive on the Memorial Day weekend to arrange a designated driver before the start of the festivities, and they have planned extra patrols and DUI checkpoints to stop drunk driving all over the city.

On Friday 23rd of May, the Los Angeles Police Department will have added officers patrolling Central area from 4 p.m. to midnight.

On Saturday 24th of May, in Southwest area from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On 23rd of May Friday, the department will conduct the following checkpoints in the following areas:

  • Florence Avenue at Main Street from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Highland Avenue at De Longpre Avenue from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
  • Osborne Street at Laurel Canyon Boulevard from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
  • Ventura Boulevard at Big Oak Drive from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

On Saturday 24th of May, Huntington Drive at Pueblo Avenue from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

It is advised by LAPD to every individual celebrating the holiday weekend to plan a safe method to get home before going outside. It is advised by the police to designate or hire a sober driver in advance, leaving the keys of their motor vehicle at home, using public transportation, or hiring a taxi.

From Friday 6 p.m. to Tuesday morning, California Highway Patrol will also be conducting a maximum enforcement period. All the on-duty police officers will be present and patrolling the region’s freeways.
