San Francisco man arrested for DUI after chase

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – According to the authorities, a Francisco man was taken into custody for drunk driving early Friday after leading CHP officers on a pursuit that ended in an accident in a San Rafael neighborhood.

The incident started at about 3 a.m. when one of the officers spotted a Buick Park Avenue travelling at high speed on Highway 101 in the area of North San Pedro Road. The officers tried to stop the car but the driver didn’t stop and travelled at high speed on the freeway at the Freitas Parkway and onto San Rafael city streets. The officers started chasing the vehicle in an attempt to pull him over. After turning down different streets as well as running stop signs in an attempt to lose the officers, the Buick turned right onto Tamarac Drive from Las Pasvadas Ave. and headed to Monticello Road. The driver tried to turn right onto Monticello Road but he failed and lost control of his vehicle. The Buick travelled over a curb through a posted stop sign and a small tree and then collided with a wooden fence, where the vehicle stopped very close to a house.

Police officers reached the car with guns and took the driver of the car into custody who was identified as 26-year-old Patrick McGuire of San Francisco. There was also a passenger travelling in the car, 25-year-old Joseph Taoli of San Rafael, who was injured in the crash. He was treated on the scene for non-life threatening injuries and then released. Police charged McGuire with several charges including felony driving under the influence.

McGuire’s record showed that he was taken into custody 2 times before on driving under the influence charges. He was arrested for the first time in 2007 and for a second time in 2011, according to the authorities.
