Five members of the San Francisco Fire Department await suspensions over DUI

SAN FRANCISCO – Five members of the San Francisco Fire Department face possible suspensions arising from an incident in which a firefighter suspected of driving under the influence hit a motorcyclist with a ladder truck and escaped from the accident spot.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, 2 assistant chiefs and a battalion chief can be suspended for their actions the night of the accident that happened on 29th of June. Two firefighters of the low level face more serious discipline that needs the Fire Commission’s review.

According to the newspaper, Michael Quinn was driving a fire truck with the siren blaring, responding to what turned out to be a fake alarm, when he hit the motorcyclist. Quinn left the scene and did not return to the department’s Station No. 1 down Howard Street for several hours. After the accident, Quinn was seen at a bar drinking water immediately.

When the accident happened, the BAC level limit of Quinn was 0.13 percent which is more than the legal driving limit. He recently resigned from the job of a firefighter.

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in the accident in which broken bones and a punctured lung are included.
