24-year-old Abraham Juarez Perea, who killed a man leaving his wife seriously injured while they were jogging, is summoned to court on Tuesday.
40-year-old Nanglee Vang and his wife, 34-year-old Molly Vang, were jogging near intersection S. Melrose and Shadowridge drives when they were struck by Perea as he was driving impaired.
The accident happened on 2nd of June as Perea was travelling in his SUV. He was driving it at a high rate of speed when he lost control as he was not in his senses due to drinking alcohol. His vehicle jumped a curb on the 1500 block of South Melrose and Shadowridge drives and struck the couple.
When Nanglee saw the SUV coming towards the couple, he pushed his wife out of the way so she could survive. The vehicle hit him with full force, according to the family of the victim.
Molly sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident. She suffered a broken collarbone, broken ribs, a serious wound to her head and a punctured lung. She is still in hospital under the care of doctors.
The driver of the SUV also sustained serious injuries in the accident. His vehicle stopped upside down and pieces of the vehicle were scattered on the accident scene. Emergency crews had to pull the driver out of the vehicle.
Nanglee Vang left 5 kids behind. His birthday was just a day before he died. The ages of the kids are between 2 to 16 years.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up by the victim’s family to get assistance in paying medical bills and funeral expenses.
The DUI suspect, Perea, has to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.
