Man arrested for DUI after causing 5-car crash
SANTA ROSA – On Friday evening, 69-year-old Jose Antonio Franco of Santa Rosa was taken into custody on suspicion of drunken driving in Santa Rosa after causing a five-car crash that left 3 individuals injured, police said on Saturday.
The accident happened when a Toyota Tacoma speeding down Hoen Avenue toward Yulupa Avenue rear-ended a car stopped at a red light. The incident occurred at about 5:15 p.m. The force of the accident caused 3 other vehicles stopped at the light to collide with each other. The accident caused major damage to each of the cars that were involved in the accident and 3 drivers suffered minor injuries in the accident. One of the drivers was taken to a hospital to be treated for their injuries, according to the police.
Police said that 4 children under 12 years old were also present in one of the vehicle which collided but no child was harmed in the crash.
Police officers who were investigating the incident said that they observed clear signs of intoxication as Franco was driving under the influence when the accident happened.
According to the test results, his BAC level was double than the legal limit. He was taken into custody on suspicion of felony DUI and was transferred to county jail where he is being held on $100,000 bail.
