CLAYTON – On Thursday evening, a crash occurred by a drunken driver in Clayton in which a motorcyclist was injured according to the police. The accident occurred near Clayton City Hall. The motorcyclist remained in critical condition Friday morning.
Clayton police Chief Chris Thorsen told that the accident happened around 5:50 p.m. on Clayton Road near Oak Street. The 51-year-old Antioch man who was riding the motorcycle was immediately taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He suffered head trauma and broken bones.
A section of Clayton Road was closed for some time on Thursday night while the incident was investigated by the police officers. The driver of the car was identified by the police as 21-year-old Jessica Mercurio of Concord. Thorsen said that she was taken into custody on suspicion of felony DUI. She was transferred to the county jail in Martinez where she is being held on $100,000 bail.
The investigation showed that Mercurio was driving on Clayton Road when she passed over the roadway’s center divider and hit the motorcyclist head-on with her Toyota Corolla.
Mercurio was charged for driving under the influence of alcohol. Thorsen told that charges are pending an investigation in which the test results to determine Mercurio’s BAC level at the time of the accident will be included.
