22-year-old Santa Rosa man arrested for fatal Hit-and-Run and DUI

ROHNERT PARK – 22-year-old Gyvaughn Smith was taken into custody on Thursday on suspicion of DUI and a fatal hit-and-run collision with a bicyclist which left him dead in Sonoma County.

The accident happened at 4:40 a.m. and the location was Stony Point Road, north of Millbrae Avenue near Rohnert Park. He left the accident spot and the cops found him driving his Jeep Liberty 25 minutes later on Stony Point Road near Sebastopol Road.

Smith’s vehicle was not the only one which hit the bicyclist. He was also struck by a dark-colored sedan. The driver of the second vehicle escaped the accident spot after hitting the bicyclist.

Identity of the 25-year-old bicyclist was not released by the police.

Smith is in jail for the following charges:

  • Felony hit-and-run
  • Misdemeanor DUI
  • Driving without a license

He is summoned to Sonoma County Superior Court on Monday.
